1000-Day Milestone for the MDGs

Momentum 1000
Friday, 5 April marks 1,000 days to the target date for the Millennium Development Goals and has been identified by the Secretary-General as an advocacy opportunity for all UN agencies and its partners worldwide. Starting the week of 1 April and beyond the 5 April moment, online and offline events are planned highlighting how the MDGs are the most successful global antipoverty push in history and that the world community now has 1000 days to accelerate action.

The official hashtag for this initiative is #MDGMomentum.

A dedicated #MDGMomentum: 1,000 Days of Action webpage, in all languages, will be available on the UN’s official MDG website: http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals. They have shortened it here: http://bit.ly/X9VXRd The webpage will contain important #MDGMomentum messages and materials for sharing on Twitter and Facebook. It will also crosslink programming such as the 1,000minute rally hosted by UN Foundation and the #MDGMomentum Twitter Rally on 5 April.

Starting 2 April, the English version of the landing page will be live. Language versions of the site will be up by the end of the week.

Also, UN agencies, partners and the public will be invited to link to the page and share #MDGMomentum materials on Twitter and Facebook. Materials include new MDG infographics for each goal and a 1000 Days overview infographic. The infographics can be used beyond the 2-12 April timeline as they are not branded for the 1,000 Days of Action. For those UN agencies, country offices, and UNICs wishing to obtain the infographic files to edit for other languages and data, please email mohiuddin@un.org.
