A Sorry Excuse for a Father

Bad Father's Club
Somebody should teach this father a lesson or, better yet, file charges so that he'll stay in jail for a long time. Unfortunately, it appears nobody wants to or brave enough to do the right thing.

As a result, a father who beat up his three children using a belt and a bolo after they failed to cook dinner, could go free anytime soon.

This was the statement released by the Taguig police when asked about the case against Manuel Cuntapay. The suspect is now in prison, but might go unpunished if the children or their relatives refuse to file a case against him.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also said their hands are tied because the kids refuse to issue a statement against their father.

An ABS-CBN TV Patrol report earlier showed the 3 Cuntapay children aged 12, 11 and 8 with wounds on their heads and arms after being beaten severely by their father. The report also said that Cuntapay was drunk and had whipped the children, first with a belt and then with a bolo, after they failed to cook dinner last 7 September 2013.

"They know how to cook but there was no food," Cuntapay reasoned out.

Women's desk office Filomena Sabelo of the local social welfare and development office in Old Lower Bicutan said Cuntapay hit his kids with a bolo after getting tired of using his belt.

The mother of the Cuntapay children is expected to arrive from Malaysia tonight. The kids' seemingly 'useless' grandfather said it will be up to the children's mother if a case will be filed against Cuntapay.

Despite the abuse, none of the children want their father to stay in jail. They said they will ask help from the police if their father abuses them again, which could only get worse.

Cuntapay has also apologized to his children, saying he loved them and did not mean to hurt them, which many doubts. Given Cuntapay's past behavior, not a few in their area doubts his sincerity.
