School Calendar for 2014-1015 Released

School Calendar 2014-2015
The School Calendar for 2014-2015 has just been released reflecting the school events and activities for the School Year (SY). The core events and activities enumerated by the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 18, series of 2014 represents the actual teaching-learning days.

Officially, the SY 2014-2015 will begin on Monday, 2 June 2014 and ends on Friday, 27 March 2015.

The SY 2014-2015 consists of 201 school days, inclusive of the five-day In-Service Training (INSET) break and the parent-teacher conferences. The various DepEd-recognized events and activities, including the number of days per quarter, were also included as attachments to the Order.

Private schools, on the other hand, are still allowed to deviate from the School Calendar. They may not start classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August of 2014. This was clearly included in the Republic Act (RA) No. 7797, otherwise known as "An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to not More than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Days."

The DepEd Order also compels schools to observe national and local celebrations/activities and holidays other than those already identified by DepEd. However, the schools are still mandated to maintain the total number of school days and to conduct make-up classes whenever they need to compensate for lost school days.

Lastly, school are required to submit a Report on the Actual Number of School Days, including recommendations on how the policy on meeting the required number of school days can be strengthened.
