Women Changers Part 1
Whenever we celebrate the International Women's Day (IWD), it is prudent to know that the observance was a result of the organizing activities of women in the early 20th Century. Between 1909 and 1911, working women in the United States participated in organizing strike activities of the National Women’s Trade Union League and other concerned groups. They were responding to the low wages, lack of protective legislation and the poor working conditions to which women workers were subjected during that time.

This year's celebration of Women's Month pays tribute to the strong and resilient "Juanas" who brought inspiring changes here in the country and across the globe.

Are RTU Students Becoming Abusive?

Twin reports on hate crimes and abusive behavior just put the quality of students at the Rizal Technological University (RTU) in question. It speaks a lot about the proper discipline or lack of it that prevails in the hearts of the younger generation studying in the Mandaluyong City school as well as put into question the security measures and responsive policies that the administration has adopted.

The first report was about a young professor who, for reasons still not clear, was physically harassed by a group of ill-mannered RTU students and the pathetic response time of the security force employed by the university:

"Speaking Up" Against An Abusive BI Officer

A teacher named Roselle Carreon posted an article in Facebook entitled, "What should you do when a public servant asks you to 'SHUT UP': SPEAK UP!" on 25 March 2014. She recounted what she and her husband experienced when they went to the Bureau of Immigration's (BI) Makati extension office on 24 March 2014 to settle her husband's Alien Certificate of Registration Identity (ACR I) card.

In her post, she related that her husband had "properly" asked a certain Carlo Salazar, who she assumed was the office supervisor, if she could claim the ID in his behalf as he would be out of the country by the time it would be released. What she got as a response, totally surprised her.

After four decades of fighting that has claimed tens of thousands of lives, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) signed the peace deal with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak witnessing the high-profile ceremony in Manila. The MILF also promised to give up their arms for an autonomous homeland.
