Philippines Lost a Friend in Paul Walker

RIP Paul Walker
Paul Walker may not be a Filipino, but he did a lot of things to help the Philippines, especially the victims of Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan). It is therefore, with great sadness when the country heard about his tragic death in a car accident on Saturday (30 November 2013).

Walker's death came as shocking and heart-breaking news to all his Filipino fans and Hollywood friends. While Walker starred in more than 30 movies during his showbiz career, he will forever be remembered as Brian O’Conner in the action film franchise, "Fast and the Furious".

The 40-year-old actor’s co-stars in the successful Fast and Furious franchise have released statements on their Instagram and Twitter accounts about their beloved friend.

Walker endeared himself to Filipinos after members of the "Fast and the Furious" cast, including Walker, reached out to their fans in an effort to raise awareness of as well as assistance for the victims of "Yolanda" in the Philippines. It was Walker who spoke on behalf of the group.

"The needs are gonna be extensive for a long period of time. So basically, we are reaching out to the fans. We love Manila - we were there last year, they received us with open arms. We love the Philippines," Walker in the video.

Walker was with his friend Roger Rodas, a pro racer who owned Always Evolving Performance Motors, when they got into a deadly and fiery single-car wreck in Southern California. He was supposed to attend a car show to benefit his organization Reach Out Worldwide (which sends first responders to the scenes of natural disasters) held at Rodas’ Always Evolving Performance Motors, just down the street from the site of the accident on Rye Canyon Loop, as disclosed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

According to authorities and witnesses, Walker and Rodas were in a red Porsche GT owned by Rodas at about 3:30 in the afternoon when the sports car flew off the road and slammed into a tree in Santa Clarita before it bursts into flames.
