How the Philippine Red Cross Are Helping?

PRC Helping
Last Friday (8 November 2013), Super Typhoon Haiyan tore through the Pacific islands of the Philippines, leaving behind a scene of destruction and despair. The global Red Cross network is responding to emergency needs in the Philippines with food, water, and relief supplies, and the American Red Cross is lending people, expertise and equipment to this massive effort.

Why Airdrop Was Not Carried Out?

PAF C 130
There were many suggestions from those who think they can do better than the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and questioned why no airdrop of supplies were made to areas badly affected by Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan)?

Some of these cynics falsely believed that they know better even if they haven't had any experience in relief efforts in their entire pitiful life. Most of the time they just but sit in front of their computers imprinting their nails on the keyboard or living away from the calamity area and in just one day, they thought they are experts. Sadly, they knew next to nothing.

Global Aid Continues for Typhoon Victims

Maraming salamat po!
There are still some people who sift through debris in the dark, wading through murky puddles formed after frequent, heavy rain showers. There are also some groups who sit among the stinking piles of wreckage, huddled around small fires cooking food.

Hopefully, the scene will change in the next two to three days as international relief efforts and government clearing activities are slowly reaching far-flung areas that got battered by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) as it stormed its way through central Philippines with sustained winds of 315 kph (195 mph), and gusts of 380 kph (235 mph) last 8 November 2013.

Children Bear the Brunt of Typhoon Yolanda

Child Victims
Children are the ones who are mostly affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) when it hit the central part of the Philippines on 8 November 2013. It left a storm of destruction in its wake. At present, children who survived the onslaught urgently need access to safe water, hygiene supplies, food, shelter and a safe environment to recover.

According to the reports of Kevin Voigt from CNN, "with spotty communications in the wake of one of the largest storms in history, some survivors are reduced to turning to television cameras to tell far-flung family members the worst of news."

Help for a 9-Month Old Baby

Janine Marie Victoria Medalla
Johanna Tejada-Medalla, a single mother with three children, is asking for help for her nine-month-old daughter, Janine Marie Victoria.

"My daughter Janine was born with a life-threatening condition called biliary atresia. Her liver cannot drain its waste products. This creates an irreversible condition starting with hepatitis which can later develop into liver cirrhosis and liver failure in a very short time," she told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
