Penn Bill Restricts License Driving Issuance To Illegal Aliens

Pennsylvania
A Representative in Pennsylvania, U.S., announced plans to introduce legislation prohibiting illegal Allies from getting a license.

The bill, authored by Rep. Donna Scheuren (R – Montgomery), would deny any illegal alliens in Pennsylvania access to a driver’s license. Scheuren argued that in light of the "dangerous and misguided movement" to grant immigrants licenses, it is "necessary" to ensure that the Commonwealth never adopts such policies.

Over a dozen states have issued driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants in recent years, which Scheuren said undermines federal immigration laws and incentivizes unlawful migration.

"These state laws create extreme policy inconsistencies that hinder the enforcement of immigration laws and coordination between federal and state officials," the legislation reads.

"On 12 February 2025, United States Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the Department of Justice was suing New York for issuing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants and hindering the enforcement of federal immigration laws by preventing immigration officials from accessing the vehicle records of illegal immigrants."

It is important to note that Pennsylvania does not currently allow an undocumented immigrant to obtain a driver’s license. The Commonwealth requires proof of legal residency to get a license and since most undocumented immigrants lack a Social Security number, they cannot get one.
