Who is this MJ at Camp Crame?

We all know that Michael Jordan or MJ is considered as one of the best basketball player ever. He is also known as one the most influential people in sports.

In the Philippines, there is also a person known as MJ and many in the military and police circles knows him to be a very influential peddler in Camp Crame. The Chinese businessman allegedly loves to throw parties for the officers in camp, especially if it involves high-ranking generals. Deals are sealed and contracts are signed because MJ is the one lobbying for them.

"Even promotions of police officials, he has a say. That's how powerful this man is," shared an official who once experienced MJ’s generosity.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has signed a memorandum of agreement with the beleaguered Werfast Documentation Agency which is tasked to deliver the card licenses of applicants at the Firearms and Explosives Office.

MJ has stakes in the company headed by Ireno Bacolod, a retired police director who used to head the PNP Civil Security Group (CSG), the unit that has administrative supervision over the FEO.

In May 2011, Werfast Documentation Agency offered its services to the FEO as its official courier service to deliver the card licenses to a licensee after the PNP discovered a lot of anomalies in the processing of licenses.

The memorandum of agreement was signed by Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles, then the FEO director; and Enrique Valerio, Werfast general manager.

The PNP wanted to make sure that by getting Werfast Documentation Agency, the card license will be delivered directly or personally to the applicant.

But the FEO is reportedly receiving numerous complaints from the poor service of Werfast Documentation Agency. Some of these are delay or non-delivery of the card licenses, non-issuance of official receipts, the company apparently uses LBC as its courier, and higher delivery charge compared to other courier service firms, among others.

The allegations raised against Werfast seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.

Reports also claimed that MJ even mustered enough nerve to instruct provincial directors to accompany couriers of LBC in delivering the license. And to top it all, MJ even “requests” police regional chiefs to do the same.

"Ganyan siya kalakas. Nakakapag-utos siya," another official said.

A number of people are just adversely affected by the strict implementation of reforms in the FEO which is why Werfast has been the subject of criticisms lately, a police official said in defense of Werfast.
