No words can described the gruesome ordeal that a 2-year old boy suffered before he died in the hands of his kidnappers. However, only one penalty can give him justice: DEATH TO THOSE WHO ARE GUILTY OF THE CRIME.
Police believed that 2-year-old Ekam Belera Singh was dragged into a musky cellar in Calamba City, Laguna. Next, the suspects squeezed the terrified boy’s cheeks forcing his mouth wide open. Then the kidnappers stuffed sweat-soaked cloth down his throat. After that, the victim was tied up by his abductors as if he were some vicious criminal.
As Ekam suffocated and slowly died, the suspects called up his parents and demanded PhP 500,000 for his release. Ekam was believed to have been kidnapped by his aunt Donaril Belera, 24, her boyfriend Edward de Mesa, 26, and the Singh family’s caretaker Ricardo Canedra 8:00 A.M. on 17 April 2014.
The boy was abducted when his parents Sukhwinder Singh and Desiree Belera Singh, both Indian nationals, stepped out of their house located on Phase 2, Calamba Hills in Calamba City, Laguna.
The suspects hid the boy in a cellar near the boy’s home where they gagged and chained him up. They then demanded ransom from Ekam’s parents. From their initial demand of PhP 0.5 million, they later agreed on PhP 50,000 in exchange for the boy’s release.
Ekam’s parents left the cash at a dump site in Bgy. Mayapa at 4:00 A.M. on 18 April 2014. The money was quickly scooped up by Canedra while Balera and de Mesa watched from a distance.
The boy was found dead at 8:30 A.M. the following day by Bgy. Mayapa residents and believed to have suffocated to death while he was being hidden by his abductors in the cellar.
Canedra was subjected to interrogation and investigation. She soon admitted to police that she, Belera and De Mesa had kidnapped the boy. Authorities arrested Belera and De Mesa who are now detained at the Calamba City PNP lock up cell.
