Under heinous crime was committed in Manila. And like all the other previous acts against the helpless and the vulnerable, the perpetrators need to be punished – with death.
The incident occurred over the weekend after a seven-year-old girl who was possibly raped was found dead behind the restroom of a house in Manila's Pandacan district on 7 September 2014.
The victim had no clothes on, and her body bore at least 20 stab wounds and cigarette burns.
According to the girl's father, she went missing around 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, 6 September 2014. They immediately reported to barangay officials that she was nowhere to be found. They looked for her until midnight, but their search was in vain.
Principal suspect Norman de Leon, 34, who earlier confessed to having killed the girl, remains in detention at the Manila Police District (MPD) even as the probe continues.
De Leon admitted to being a drug user and had reportedly not slept for three days owing to being ‘high’ on drugs before the incident.
Also being held, although for custodial investigation only, are his younger brother Joshua de Leon and one Romulo Marquez, who were both reportedly engaged in a drinking session with the suspect before the rape-slaying took place. It is not yet established whether they had anything to do with the crime.
The suspect will be made to undergo inquest proceedings anytime within the week.
The question now is, once proven guilty, how long does it take for justice to claim the lives of the perpetrators.
