A recent study reveals that the younger generation of Filipinos is considered to be the biggest consumers of online porn in the in the country.
According to the website Pornhub, 60 percent of its users today are millennials, a trend which can be attributed to the rapid access to information and social media usage of 18- to 34-year-olds. Millennials are those that were born between the years 1982 and 2000.
"The sense of media awareness and general world views of these 18-34 year-olds truly sets them apart from previous generations in the way that they consume online [content]," it said.
The highest proportions of millennial users of Pornhub versus the older generation are located in Asia, led by India (80:20), Indonesia (74:26), Egypt (73:27), Vietnam (73:27), Philippines (71:29), South Korea (70:30) and Thailand (69:31).
The global average ratio for the website is 60:40, with nations such as the United States and Japan having low scores at 58:42 and 48:52, respectively. Pornhub noted that Japan has a higher median age of 46 years as compared to other countries.
"Over 50 percent of India’s overall population is aged under 25 and the country’s median age is 27, to put things into perspective," the website said.
"Over 25 percent of Japan’s population is over 65 years of age," it said, adding, "This explains why their proportion of millennial-aged viewers is so low at just 48 percent."
Both millennials and the older generation of viewers – or those aged 35 and above – view adult content the most on Mondays and the least on Saturdays, according to Pornhub. But millennials log on an hour late at 11 p.m. compared to their older counterparts, and finish viewing a minute faster.
Around 24 percent of Pornhub’s millennial users are women, as opposed to 21 percent among those aged 35 and up.
Terms such as "lesbian," "teen," and "step mom" are generally the most searched terms by millennials on the website, but Pornhub said words such as "cosplay" and "hentai" were particularly popular among 18- to 34-year-olds compared to the older ones.
Meanwhile, Pornhub noted that millennials like to view adult content in their mobile devices, with 60 percent of traffic within the age group coming from smartphones and 7 percent from tablets.
On the other hand, users aged 35 and up are more inclined to use their desktops to watch porn.
