When confronted by police officers and given clear instruction to stand-down and surrender, the response is simple – follow it. Those who disobey the order faced the risk of being shot down.
This is exactly what happened to a barefooted, deranged and gender-bending Georgia Tech student during an LGBTQ protest on campus.
Police and campus video footage even showed how the student, who could be high on drugs, challenged and threaten the authorities.
Scout Schultz, 21, who identified as gender non-binary, was shoeless and carrying a small knife when the officer opened fire at around 11:20 P.M. last 16 September, sources told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The video shows Schultz, of Lilburn, shouting “shoot me!” in a parking lot while walking towards the officer, who warns the student to stop and drop the weapon.
"Nobody wants to hurt you," one of the officers can be heard saying.
Schultz continues to walk towards the officer, who shoots the student once. Schultz then falls to the ground and screams in pain, the video shows.
The campus cops first got a call reporting “person with a knife and a gun” at around 11:17 P.M., according to a press release from the Georgia Tech Police Department.
"Schultz continued to advance on the officers with a knife… Subsequently, one officer fired striking Schultz," it states. Schultz was, "not cooperative and would not comply with the officers commands," it states.
Schultz's heartbroken mom, Lynne Schultz, was baffled by the tragedy, she told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday.
"Why didn’t they use some nonlethal force, like pepper spray or Tasers?" she said, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The answer is simple, when somebody threatens you with a knife, you don't fight it with a less threatening weapon like a pepper-spray. Use a more powerful tool than what the criminals are using to be effective and for safety.
If you are going against a knife, use a gun. If they have a gun, use automatic rifles. If they are suicide bombers, bomb their bases from the air.
