Let us make this clear. Mr. Potato Head is a HE, not an IT or a SHE.
However, for some reason, Hasbro, the company that makes the potato-shaped plastic toy, is giving the spud a gender neutral new name: Potato Head. The change was reported to appear on boxes this year.
As expected, and like an avalanche, the complaints and outrage came pouring in. They were mainly directed against the "woke culture," which in previous inauthentically organized and promoted flaps was called "political correctness".
Adverse reactions include the tweet from Piers Morgan lamenting "woke imbeciles destroying the world". Mostly, the readers lamented that some people have time to worry about the gender of a plastic potato.
On 25 February 2021, Hasbro attempted to staunch the tears about the "cancellation" and/or "neutering" of Mr. Potato Head with a tweet affirming that both Mrs. and Mr. Potato Head would remain part of the Potato Head Family line:
"Hold that Tot – your main spud, MR. POTATO HEAD isn’t going anywhere! While it was announced today that the POTATO HEAD brand name & logo are dropping the ‘MR.’ I yam proud to confirm that MR. & MRS. POTATO HEAD aren’t going anywhere and will remain MR. & MRS. POTATO HEAD."
