Conservative commentator and former TV host Megyn Kelly had an epic rant last 14 January after she ripped into the Los Angeles Fire Department, calling for the firing of "obese lesbian" firefighters.
"I believe I speak for all females in Los Angeles when I say we want a strong man to rescue us," Kelly said on her podcast, "The Megyn Kelly Show".
As the wildfires in the L.A. area continue to devastate the city, the fire department has struggled to contain the blazes due to the very apparent lack of resources and water.
Conservative critics have pointed to the fire department’s leadership team, particularly Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, who is openly gay, Deputy Chief Kristine Larson and training commander Jaime Brown, as the culprits for LAFD’s issues.
"These are overweight, out-of-shape women. The last thing I want to see if I’m in a burning building is a) a woman, and b) an obese woman," Kelly said. "Who takes comfort in 'I'm going to die, but it's in the presence of an obese lesbian'? This is ridiculous."
Though Crowley, Larson and Brown are the only women on the LAFD’s 14-person leadership team, they've become symbolic to critics who believe the department is focusing more on diversity than fire fighting.
Kelly played a series of clips of Crowley and Larson, who is also the head of Equity and Human Resources Bureau, talking about initiatives to increase diversity within the fire department.
"They should all be fired," Kelly continued. "Any time you spent, fire chief, worrying about this, making sure you had the staff for DEI and amassed the staff for that, while you’re short firefighters, you should be fired."
The wildfires have already burned through over 30,000 acres of land and killed at least 24 people.
