Social Media Relaxes Speech Restrictions Against Women

Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram have started to quietly loosened their public rules on what a few considered as 'hate speech' against transgender people, women, and immigrants as executives seek to curry favor with Donald Trump.

In an update to its hate speech policy last 7 January, spotted first by The Independent, the apps' parent company Meta deleted numerous clauses banning specific derogatory statements about protected groups, while adding detailed exceptions for anti-trans speech.

U.S. Lower House Finally Passed The Laken Riley Act

The Laken Riley Act passed the House of Representatives last 7 January, the first piece of federal legislation approved by the 119th Congress after the House agreed to its rules for the term.

All voting Republicans supported the bill, along with 48 Democrats – more than the total left-wing lawmakers who voted for it last year. It passed on a 264 to 159 margin and will now be sent to the Senate.

Suspected Chinese Spy Drone Captured By Filipino Fisherman

Filipino fishermen found a Chinese underwater spy drone off the coast of the Philippines, police said.

The drone was discovered last 2 December around six miles off the coast of a small island in the Masbate province, per a news release from the Philippines National Police (PNP).
