Haiyan-Like Typhoon On Its Way To Japan

All typhoon watchers should set their eyes on Japan this coming weekend because the biggest and deadly natural storm is about the land of the rising sun. It is as powerful as the one that ripped through the Philippines in 2013 killing thousands of people, meteorologists said.

The monstrous storm, named Vongfong, was picking up speed as it churned through the far west of the Pacific Ocean.

Scientists claimed that high levels of calcium in blood, known as hypercalcaemia, can be used by GPs as an early sign of certain types of cancer, and can be diagnosed using a simple bold test.

Are Police Protecting Street Gambling in Cubao?

Aside from the different kidnapping incidents allegedly committed by police authorities, the law enforcement agency also had to content with accusations that those who were sworn to protect the public were also the alleged protectors of illegal activities.

Residents of Cubao in Quezon City were reported last weekend to be protesting the presence of "sidewalk casinos" that they blame as the prime reason behind the rise of petty crimes in the area. Located along Pinatubo and West Point streets, the street level casinos were reportedly frequented by policemen, law enforcers and members of media to get their payoffs.

PHL Will Drill in Disputed Area

With or without Chinese cooperation, the Philippines is bent on pursuing its plans to drill oil in the disputed area. That's what the chairman of an energy company said on 25 September after a Chinese state-owned oil producer hasn't responded to a revived proposal to jointly explore a disputed area of the South China Sea. The drilling will start on 2016 and China will have to deal with it.

Manuel V. Pangilinan said that Filipino-British company Forum Energy PLC communicated the offer to China National Offshore Oil Corp. to explore Reed Bank, northwest of the Philippine island of Palawan. Philippine and Chinese vessels had a confrontation there three years ago.
